Some are so rubbery that they may even be a bit sticky and it's also difficult to move your finger across the screen, and every TPU protector I've seen always has some level of the dreaded orange peel effect. While these are more durable, they also tend to be quite soft and are often have rubbery textures.

Most aftermarket screen protectors are made of TPU and are essentially super-thin pieces of auto paint protection film cut for phone screens. Unfortunately, from the damage it had incurred and what I could tell when I removed it, it was made of PET-one of the cheapest and least durable plastics you could make a screen protector out of-and that caused it to wear out quite quickly.Īfter just a little more than three months of owning and using the phone, the protector had sustained tons of micro-scratches all over and there were some more significant scratches in the area of the fingerprint scanner and along the right edge in portrait mode where I used my thumb to scroll. The factory-installed screen protector had two things going for it: it had a smooth, almost glasslike surface, and it had an oleophobic coating. I've seen numerous threads made by owners asking where they could find such a screen protector and I've personally been on the hunt as well. A lot of us, myself included, love the plastic screen protector that Samsung installed on our phones at the factory.
